2017 Summer Program – Introduction to Music Composition

Two weeks, Part time (10 hours per week)


You will learn how to work with contemporary studio technology from a creative perspective, allowing for the development of your creative musical expression. You will study at our dedicated campus, that provides a rich creative environment and plenty of chances to gain experience across complementary disciplines. Using Logic Pro X as a DAW (Digital audio workstation), you will learn multiple workflow methodologies that complements the creation and presentation of your music and sound. This short term program comprises 10 two hour sessions spread across two weeks.

What You Will Study

You will explore the relationship between Indian classical and popular Western music theories, types of musical instruments and their respective registers, desktop music production Techniques such as MIDI sequencing, synthesis and sampling, melodic composition and motivic development and music arrangement techniques.

How You Will Study

The short term Music Production program is taught through interactive presentation sessions and practical hands-on training on professional audio hardware and software. The sessions are held in SIFM’s airconditioned Media lab which houses a white board and large screen projector. Each student will work on his/her individual Apple iMac computer and MIDI controller keyboard. As part of the program, you will also undertake program related recording tasks in our professional audio recording suite. You will also get individual tuition to develop your practical music skills, building to one or more creative tangibles.
